Boils

Boils

Boils are swollen pus-filled areas of skin, usually occurring at the base of a hair. They are caused by bacterial infections, which are attacked by white blood cells, forming a cavity that fills with pus.

Traditionally, Boils are treated with either a poultice or paste to draw the toxins to the service, or by lancing to release the pus, or if more serious with antibiotics and possibly surgery.

Complementary health practitioners, however, prefer to treat them in a systemic way, seeing them as a result of imbalance in the system eg. boils in Ayurveda are attributed to too much Pitta (heat) in the body, and the patient is treated accordingly with herbs, massage, cleansing and diet.
