Crohn’s Disease
Crohn’s Disease is a chronic inflammation of the digestive tract, particularly the lower small intestine. It is mainly a disease of Western civilisation, and occurs most often in people aged 15 to 35.
The symptoms are pain, bloating, fever, fatigue, weight loss and vitamin and mineral deficiencies. In severe cases the intestine can become blocked by scars. The joints, eyes and skin might also become inflamed.
Crohn’s Disease might be caused by lifestyle factors such as refined diet, lack of exercise and stress. Some think that it might be an auto-immune response, particularly as the intestines are sensitive to stress. There is some evidence that it might be genetic as it runs in families.
